The Monarch Stag was commissioned for a hotel in Chesterfield, Derbyshire. The term ‘Monarch’ derives from the red deer’s prominent 16 point or more antlers, depicted here using both chisels and socket spanners. To keep the piece lightweight, the centre remains hollow, with forks depicting the ribs and allowing airflow through the piece, maintaining balance in exposure to strong winds.
